Today is a day of simple pleasures. Of fat, fuzzy bumblebees in the lavender…

…of sleeping in, working on a crossword puzzle, walking the dogs to the video store, drinking coffee with chocolate in the bottom of the cup. I trace the scratch on the back of my hand from the blackberry bush, a lifeline of happiness. I sneak a glance at the girls in their skirts and sundresses, carrying diaries and paisley purses and copies of Harry Potter with flowered bookmarks. I am so grateful for this week of recuperation, in body and spirit.

Rickie is a friend of ours!
Call and Respond
Kamla Kakaria and Rickie Wolfe
Show Dates: August 6 – 29, 2009Opening Reception: Thursday, August 6th 5-9pm
In Call and Respond, two artists overlap in approach yet remain
distinct and individual. Kamla Kakaria and Rickie Wolfe both have
degrees in printmaking yet they work mostly in other media. These two
artists respond to each other’s work and it manifests in their ideas.
New ideas come from the natural world, the constructed world as well
as other artists. Kamla and Rickie take no issue with appropriating a
technique or discovery the other has made. They use different materials from different sources yet their dialogue with each other is evident.
Shift Studio is located at 306 S Washington St #105 in the Tashiro Kaplan Building in Pioneer Square. Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays 12-5 PM or by appointment at info@shiftstudio.org. Shift Studio is a collaborative artists studio that opened in the fall of 2004 in the newly renovated Tashiro Kaplan Arts Complex. Shift was established as an artist-run space with the primary goal of supporting practicing Northwest artists.
